It’s not just the temperature that makes Jule Zabek shiver when she sees the male corpse in Stralsund. In addition to a gaping head wound, the body has been damaged by water and seagulls. The police are able to establish the identity of the dead man surprisingly quickly, and a receipt in his pocket leads the investigators to “Paradise City” – a rough pub for sports nostalgics. Arne Ammer, a sports journalist from Hamburg, had rented a room in a hotel in Stralsund. Recordings from the hotel’s surveillance cameras show an intruder in motorcycle gear entering Ammer’s room. Was he also Ammer’s murderer?
The possible scene of the murder provides another clue. Ammer was probably
thrown into the water on the opposite shore of Rügen, near the “Nachtigall” vacation home settlement. Only one person looks after the empty luxury houses during the off-season: janitor Andy Block. Hidde immediately recognizes his former sporting idol in him: Block was a successful weightlifter in the GDR, with as many sporting accolades back then as he has physical ailments today. Together with Block, Hidde and Jule try to investigate a possible crime scene and find what they are looking for faster than they thought. In one of the vacation homes, the police detect forensic evidence of large traces of blood. And not only that – Andy Block’s cleaning tools also show traces of blood. Should the case be solved so quickly?
