Philosophy professor Therese Engel (Christiane Hörbiger) finds it hard to leave her job. But she consoles herself with the prospect of finally being able to catch up with her husband Heinz (Ulrich Pleitgen) on what has been neglected all these years alongside parenthood and career. The disappointment is all the more bitter when Heinz, a successful orthopedic surgeon, suddenly no longer honors the agreement and wants to continue working. Instead of pursuing their lifelong dream together as planned, Therese travels alone to her beloved Ticino. There she unexpectedly meets the much younger Stephan (Thomas Sarbacher), who pretends to be her former student. Therese falls head over heels in love, losing not only her heart but also her mind. Stephan’s attention, his curiosity and thirst for adventure, the feeling of being alive, tempt Therese into a fling that shakes up her life and that of her family.
