Harriet Devonshire (Wanda Colombina) had her son Matthew (Markus Quentin) at a very young age and her parents still have custody. Against their daughter’s will, they place him in a boarding school – for Harriet, the sign of revolt. She finally wants to stand on her own two feet and take responsibility for her son herself. She dreams of becoming a photographer and quitting the family business. After an éclat, she simply runs away from the parental home – without a new place to stay. In her distress, she meets the tomboyish teacher May Sargent (Ulrike C. Tscharre), who is taking some time off, and is able to move in with her on a houseboat on the Hudson River. The two very different women soon become close friends who trust and support each other. When Harriet finds a job with the famous photographer Leo Purbright (Ben Braun) during her job search, everything seems to fall into place and the time is not far away when Harriet can finally take her son home. But the glamorous world of the charming advertising photographer not only holds many a faux pas for the inexperienced Harriet, but also his scheming ex Angie (Stephanie Stumph)…
