The body of a young girl washes up on the Elbe beach. The body is completely emaciated, the feet are bloody. Anna Bartholomé (Marie Leuenberger) takes over the case, as Inspector Ruiz (Juergen Maurer) is feverishly searching for the murderer of a married couple. The only witness and suspect in the double murder, Andreas Schaller (Sabin Tambrea) is mentally ill and won’t talk. Joe Jessen (Ulrich Noethen) is supposed to help persuade him to confess. The dead woman from the river can be identified by her fingerprints: It is Tanja Bredesen (Valerie Huber), one of the two so-called “Elbe girls,” Tanja and Pia, who disappeared two years ago. Joe Jessen quickly suspects a connection between the two cases, because the suspect’s confused statements indicate that Tanja must have been on the scene when the couple was bestially killed. But if Tanja was alive until recently, Pia might still be alive. For Joe Jessen, Vincent Ruiz and Anna Barhtolomé, a race against time begins….
