A shopping street is closed off in the middle of the night. Cars are diverted. Even a patrol car. No problem. Actually. However, today HARRY TÖNNIES (Benno Fürmann) is sitting on the car – and Harry immediately suspects that the closure has not been registered. He pulls over and demands information from the “man from the road traffic office”, whose real name is BALOU (Klismann Lefaza Jovete) and who is by no means from the office, but the accomplice of NORMAN (Pit Bukowski). He squats in a forklift not far from the roadblock, tears an ATM out of the wall with great fanfare and loads it onto a pickup truck.
As soon as the ATM is loaded, Balou runs, jumps into the truck and speeds off with Norman – and the money. Harry and his partner MILLA (Friederike Becht) take up the chase and are able to apprehend the thieves. While Milla calls for backup, Harry approaches the pickup truck. He demands the gangsters to surrender. Balou follows the demand, but Norman just got out of jail, he doesn’t want to go back. He shoots Harry in the chest at close range. And disappears – with Balou, the gun, the money. Harry dies in Milla’s arms before she can tell him they are expecting his child.
As with all “Nachtschicht” thrillers, the book for the 16th film in this cult series is by Lars Becker, who also directs.
“Nachtschicht – Cash & Carry” is a production of Network Movie Film- und Fernsehproduktion GmbH, Wolfgang Cimera, Cologne. Daniel Blum is the editor at ZDF.
