The 24th case takes Robert Anders and his team’s investigation to a family where no one seems to have found happiness.
“You’ll soon change your mind about him when you find out the truth!” Ben Jonsson, a chef at the prestigious Grå Hästen Hotel, yells angrily into his cell phone while trying to escape a pursuer in his car. The next morning he is dead, his body found in his car, parked in the gravel pit of Gotland.
Robert investigates around the renowned hotel run by the charismatic David Hellgren and his wife Camilla. Ben Jonsson was employed here as a cook. David’s sister Marit and her husband Kris Ulander also want to try their luck in the hotel business and have been renovating a run-down boarding house for years. The dream of owning their own hotel, however, is overshadowed by Kris’ criminal past. The Ulanders are shunned, son Jack is bullied at school because of his father, and his teacher wonders what’s wrong with him. Without David’s financial support, they’d be down and out by now.
Anders and his team find out that Camilla had an affair with the chef of their hotel and is pregnant: Her husband, who is spoiled for success, is thus suspected of murder. But then his adoptive father Hasse Hellgren interferes in the investigation. The retired policeman is always well informed about everything via police radio and firmly believes in the innocence of his son. When he disappears off the face of the earth, he incriminates his daughter’s husband: Kris must have gotten David out of the way, after all, he owes him a fortune for the renovation…
