A girl has been kidnapped on Gotland: Inspector Robert Anders can only help the parents if they trust him, but the perpetrator threatens to kill the little girl if the police become involved.
Lasse and Ellie Wallin’s six-year-old daughter Stella has disappeared. Her sister Lucy was supposed to take care of her. While searching the beach, however, Robert Anders finds not Stella but a male corpse. It is Nils Holm, who is not from Gotland and does not have an entirely innocent criminal record in Stockholm. Clues suggest that he may have previously kidnapped little Stella. Does Nils’ killer know where Stella is? The inspector goes to Stockholm to follow the trail of the dead man by the sea. In his house he is surprised by Viggo Swensson, who supposedly only wants to be an acquaintance. His criminal record and reputation are quickly investigated, but there is no trace of Stella. Caught up in their common fear for the little girl, the Wallins receive a ransom demand at the same time. The kidnapper’s rules: if the police are involved, the girl must die. In this unbearable situation, Lasse confides everything to his business partner and best friend Ole Isaksson, even the plans for the ransom delivery. The two families are closely connected. Ole’s daughter Ronja is Lucy’s best friend, and the two feel terribly guilty – and seem to be hiding something. Does their dark secret have something to do with Stella’s kidnapping? And who is the acquaintance of Nils Holm? Robert and his team are working against time….
