30 years ago, nine-year-old Vicky was brutally raped. Bruno van Leeuwen, who was already investigating the case at the time, finally has evidence in his hands thanks to the latest DNA technology, which can be used to convict a neighbor as the rapist of that time. But Piet Martens is not convicted in court, despite the new evidence, because the crime is just under the statute of limitations. Martens leaves court a free man.
Out of her impotence, Vicky lunges at Martens and hits him with a bottle. The police separate the two, and Martens’ lawyer charges Vicky with dangerous bodily harm. She is convicted and now has a criminal record. Vicky’s parents are beside themselves. It has taken their daughter years to stop feeling like a victim. Now they fear her ordeal is starting all over again. But all this seems to rush past Vicky. She steels her body and seems to be able to put away even the end of her teaching career due to her criminal record. Bruno van Leeuwen only realizes that this calm is deceptive when Piet Martens disappears without a trace. His son sees Vicky as the perpetrator. When the boy also disappears, van Leeuwen fears that the terrible events could repeat themselves.
