A mysterious internet acquaintance, the drug raid at a party, the sudden death of a girl: Judith Mohn unravels the dangerous mystery of cyber grooming in a family friend.

After a Belgian drug dealer’s car crashes on a country road along the Saar, the body of a 16-year-old girl is discovered in the trunk of the crashed car. Judith Mohn (Christina Hecke) knows the dead woman: It is Jette Mertens (Franziska Brandmeier), the daughter of the married couple Nicole (Sophie von Kessel) and Frank (Hary Prinz), who are friends.

The commissioner had seen Jette at a party during a drug raid on the very evening of the crime and sent her home alone. Driven by guilt, the investigator does everything she can to find Jette’s killer. At the same time, Judith Mohn is also plagued by worries in her private life: she and her husband Niklas (Juergen Maurer) were actually supposed to celebrate their wedding anniversary, but Niklas seems to have disappeared without a trace.

She soon discovers that Jette’s younger sister Sarah (Emilie Neumeister) knows more about the crime against her sister than she is telling. Sarah chats on the Internet with an unknown person who hides behind the avatar “Leo”. Together with her colleague Freddy (Robin Sondermann), Judith gets on the trail of the mysterious nerd Sven (Leonard Kunz), who hangs around the Mertens family.

But what is the connection between the computer nerd, who grew up in the home, and the Mertens family? Mysterious is also the information the detective receives as she delves deeper and deeper into the family’s web of lies and secrets. When Sarah suddenly disappears, a race against time begins …

The Saturday crime series “In Wahrheit” is produced by Network Movie Film- und Fernsehproduktion, Hamburg, on behalf of ZDF and in cooperation with ARTE (producer: Jutta Lieck-Klenke). Eva Katharina Klöcker and Günther van Endert (ZDF) and Olaf Grunert (ARTE/ZDF) are the editors.

The successful opening film of the crime series in Saarland, “In Wahrheit – Mord am Engelsgraben,” was broadcast by ARTE on Friday, June 9, 2017 (1.5 million viewers & 1.52% MA) and by ZDF on Saturday, November 18, 2017 (6.37 million viewers & 20.6% MA), at 8:15 p.m. The third film in the series (“In Wahrheit – Still ruht der See”) was filmed in Germany and France in summer 2018. A broadcast date has not yet been set.
