What to do when love goes, but the partner does not? In the best case, laugh. At least when you’re allowed to watch. Under the title “Merz gegen Merz,” a new eight-part comedy series starring Annette Frier and Christoph Maria Herbst was produced for ZDF in spring 2018.
Content
Anne (Annette Frier) and Erik Merz (Christoph Maria Herbst) have been married for a long time when it strikes them that they don’t actually love each other, just live everyday lives. It is not easy to implement the divorce, because the two not only have a large house and a pubescent son (Philip Noah Schwarz), but both work in the company of Anne’s father Ludwig (Michael Wittenborn), who is now diagnosed with dementia. And under these circumstances, he doesn’t want to do without his son-in-law in the company. Will it work: to separate privately and continue to work together professionally? Of course not. But it will be fun.
Anne and Erik have to get along with each other, which brings their couples therapist Dr. Heller (Lena Dörrie) a lot of work and fees. Closet walls are placed across the living room, girlfriends are stretched out, business plans are torpedoed, and at the same time a failed marriage is worked through in eloquent therapy sessions.
Michael Wittenborn, Claudia Rieschel, Carmen-Maja Antoni, Bernd Stegemann, Lena Dörrie, Philip Noah Schwarz and Tabea Willemsen can be seen alongside Annette Frier and Christoph Maria Herbst under the direction of Jan Markus Linhof and Felix Stienz.
Filming took place from February 01, 2018 to March 28, 2018 in Cologne and the surrounding area.
