It tells the story of the taciturn smuggler Bruno Markowitz (Götz George), who suddenly finds himself on the side of the “good guys” one long, icy night. Markowitz is once again bringing African refugees to Hamburg in a windowless van for a human trafficking cartel. During a traffic stop, his stowaways escape and he is forced to collect them again. So far, he has cared very little about his human cargo. Only this time it’s different: he rescues young Lola Obasi (Hadnet Tesfai) as she flees drunks, and he begins to have doubts about whether he should really deliver the girl to the mysterious Miss Gloria (Liz Baffoe). Meanwhile, the “night shift” investigates in a wealthy neighborhood of the Hanseatic city: an illegal domestic worker from Nigeria disappears without a trace. Commissioners Erichsen (Armin Rohde), Lisa Brenner (Barbara Auer), Mimi Hu (Minh-Khai Phan-Thi) and police chief Theo Lomax (Peter Kremer) are in for another turbulent night.
Other roles are played by Dominique Siassia, Jeanette Hain, Jan-Gregor Kremp, Clemens Schick, Christian Redl, Filip Peeters and others. As in all previous episodes, the book is by Lars Becker, who also directs.
