In this case, Nina Petersen and her colleagues Inspector Benjamin Lietz (Wotan Wilke Möhring), Chief Inspector Karl Hidde (Alexander Held) and Police Chief Gregor Meyer (Michael Rotschopf) get caught between the lines: A key witness has been shot on his way to the public prosecutor’s office. The route from the prison to the prosecutor’s office was top secret. Only internal people knew about it. There must be a leak in the Bureau.
Investigations lead via the prison visitor list of the murdered man to the arcade owner Godo Hartmann (Tim Wilde), who is an informant for the LKA and as such must not be exposed. Benjamin Lietz follows the investigation with great unease, which does not go unnoticed by Nina Petersen. Then Benjamin confesses to her that the information about the key witness came from him. He leaked it to Godo. In return, the gambling debts of his brother Achim (Wolfram Koch) were to be paid off. His brother is addicted to gambling and for years Benjamin has been paying off his debts. He had hoped to have finally settled the matter for Achim. But Benjamin is very much mistaken.
