Ludger Simon is found murdered in the back room of Stralsund’s “Vineta Bar”. Simon was a journalist and no stranger to the hooligan and violent scene.
Nina Petersen (Katharina Wackernagel) and her colleagues Karl Hidde (Alexander Held), Max Morolf (Wanja Mues) and boss Gregor Meyer (Michael Rotschopf) investigate the murder and soon come across a politically radical group whose meeting place was the “Vineta Bar”.
The owner of the bar and head of the group, Peter Marohn (Peter Lohmeyer), has an alibi for the time of the murder – but as a precaution he nevertheless takes a sick leave and is admitted to the psychiatric ward in order to avoid further questioning by the police.
Documents found at Ludger Simon’s home about his research work and a stolen truck with a huge amount of ammonium nitrate – pure explosive – speak for themselves: the group is planning a large-scale attack. But what is the target? And when is the whole thing supposed to take place?
Nina grasps at the last straw and makes a daring suggestion, which Meyer finally agrees to with a heavy heart: she wants to be admitted to the psychiatric clinic as a patient in order to establish contact with Marohn and thus obtain information about the attack and the co-conspirators. Only the clinic director, Dr. Steiger, is privy to this plan.
While Nina cautiously stalks the target, giving information to the outside world while facing the conspirator’s manipulative strategies and her own private problems, her colleagues outside continue to investigate feverishly. And when they finally get closer to the perpetrators and the target of the attack, Nina is already in grave danger. Dr. Steiger is being blackmailed by Marohn and has blabbed: Marohn knows Nina’s true identity, and there is by no means only valerian in the tea he serves her.
Hidde, Morolf and Meyer are on the heels of the ticking bomb and the assassins and have almost caught them, when suddenly the terrible realization arises: there are two targets! Now a game of time begins, and the clock is running out….
